Girls Football Tournament - Southdowns College - February 2022

Whitney, Elsie, Alivia, Amy, Maddie, Devon, Ieesha and India All travelled the short distance to Southdowns College for their football tournament. Filled with nerves and excitement the girls warmed up for their first game, most of them had never played before. The first of their 5 opponents was QI School.

 

After a tough battle and a great save from Alivia, Riders came away with a 0-0 draw.

Riders went into the second game against Herne straight away and were more relaxed and confident, India dominated the midfield, made a run and was tripped in the box. India took the penalty and scored. Another penalty was given to Riders after Whitney was taken out in the area. Devon stepped up and scored a great penalty. The game finished 2-0 to Riders. 

 

Next up was St Albans. Riders showed great defence in this game with Amy and Maddie at the back fighting hard, but St Albans got through and scored in the last minute making it Riders first loss 1-0 .

 

Padnell was the next team the girls faced . Elsie and Ieesha made some great tackles stopping Padnell getting through. Whitney then had 3 shots saved, before finally scoring, giving Riders a 1-0 win .

 

The last team Riders faced was Trosnant. Ieesha took over in goal for the first half and showed great confidence. Alivia then went back in goal, after some great defensive work on the pitch. Amy took a few knocks in this match whilst defending with everything she had. Maddie joined Amy in defence and battled hard. India, Devon, Whitney and Elsie played their hearts out in the midfield, but unfortunately, Trosnant got through and scored a lucky goal. Riders lost 1-0.

After only conceding 2 goals in the entire tournament, Riders’ girls came 3rd winning bronze medals.
