Pupils that experience any trauma will find it challenging to thrive in a school environment without suitable adaptations.
It is vital to not only identify ACE’s but to work with families to address their ongoing impacts and identify the protective buffers to limit their long lasting affects.

Toxic Stress and Toxic Shame are a huge barrier to regulation so working with families to understand their impact and to offer support is fundamental to aid self-regulation.
If any of the above barriers are present they can cause attachment difficulties which will lend itself to pupils not building strong bonds with adults and peers.
