SEND and Pastoral Provision at Riders Infant and Junior Schools
Introduction
At Riders Federation, we are committed to ensuring that every child receives the support they need to flourish. As the SENCO, my role is to coordinate and oversee the provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), working closely with teachers, families, and professionals to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, and we are here to provide guidance, resources, and tailored support to make that happen. Whether you have questions about SEND provision, need advice on strategies, or simply want to discuss your child’s needs, I am always happy to help.
Together, we can ensure that every child feels valued, included, and empowered to succeed.
Please feel free to contact me at a.moore@riders-inf.hants.sch.uk if you have any questions or if you would like to arrange a meeting.

Thrive
Thrive is a program that supports the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people. It aims to help schools understand and meet the emotional and social needs of their students, creating a positive environment where everyone can thrive.
We are lucky enough to have our very own thrive practitioner in school, Mrs Ryan-Smith. She works across the Federation supporting individuals and groups who would benefit. She also runs an after-school club in which individuals are invited to.
ELSA trips and sessions
In school we are lucky enough to have 3 ELSA's (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant). They are part of our pastoral team and support individuals and groups who we recognise would benefit from the emotional literacy support. They can support children through challenges they may face. Usually, an ELSA programme would be between 8 - 12 weeks however, each case is individual and some children may need the support for longer.
Our ELSA support assistants also run regular trips to help build confidence, self-esteem and give children new and exciting opportunities out of school.
Sensory Circuit
Here at Riders, we have our very own sensory circuit. This is in place to support children who may need movement breaks, sensory breaks or participate in occupational therapy. It is a resourced room that our teachers and support staff can take small groups of pupils to when they feel this could support them.
Provision-offer in school
We have support assistants in every classroom available to support children with their learning, as well as well-resourced classrooms and an incredible team around the children. Teachers work hard to address every child's individual needs and tailor learning to ensure every child makes progress.
Whilst we have the universal offer in classes, we recognise that some pupils may need more support to be able to access their learning and achieve their best.
We have 2 small groups provisions across the federation that work to support children who may need additional help. In KS1 and KS2 the small group provisions incorporates meeting both learning and developmental needs, whilst working closely with the class teachers to ensure progress for all.
We also have support from a number of different Hampshire services to ensure we provide the best opportunities for the young people at the federation.
Alternative Provision
We also work with a number of alternative provisions for pupils with SEND. This provides opportunities outside of school for these pupils to gain experiences and develop in confidence, which can then support them back in school. The skills these pupils learn will not only help them to make progress but ensure they gain skills for life.
We have worked with Releasing Potential, Plan B, ABC tutoring and ELS learning. We also work closely with Primary Behaviour Service and Robin’s Oak.
